Today we set out to check how our oil pick up tube was looking like now that the break-in period is completed.

We did some research on the chassis before diving into it, so we were well prepared for what was to come when the oil pan came off. As expected, there was RTV in our pickup tube as well as a substantial amount of RTV surrounding the oil pan and its mating surface.

When removing the oil pan, the structure bends when prying the pan off the block. We highly recommend drivers to install a brand new pan. Our pan had an extreme amount of RTV around the edges and can see where the excess RTV had been breaking off to make warranty soup. The inside of our pickup tube had several large chunks collecting in front of the filter screen.

Once we scraped off any excess RTV on the block, we began prepping any surfaces that the silicone would come in contact during the oil pan installation. We inspect the surface to ensure that it is dry and free of any dirt and debris before mating the new pan.

Our solution to oil starvation during right hand turns is Tomei's baffle plate. This plate does not mount directly to the oil pan, but will sandwich between the pan and motor. For the oil change, we went with Motul 8100 0W-20 and an OEM, Subaru oil filter. We hope that the motor will survive the coming track seasons with these changes. (The gaskets were for the header install).
