Making a Custom Hood for the Shop 86

While the Shop86 was down after Global Time Attack, Son and Chris began brainstorming on what aspects of the car can be improved on. After some back and forth, the guys came to the conclusion that we needed a better hood for track days.

Son brought the GR86 to Streets of Willow for a GR Movement event.

As with all ventilated hoods, we needed a design that would allow air to smoothly flow out of the engine bay; expelling excess heat. We eventually landed on the idea of having a large duct in the hood.

Having the duct towards the front third of the hood allows for air to channel directly through the oil cooler and radiator while exiting through the vent shortly after. This minimizes the amount of hot air that will be trapped in the engine bay during track days.

We are currently going to continue tracking on this hood and closely watching our temperatures. If the hood meets our expectations, then we will consider making a carbon fiber variant. Until then, we will continue testing this hood and alter it to our needs.
